Hello everyone! I am starting something very special today, something I have been planning out for a long time. It seems fitting, what with Civil War coming out today for early viewings, to share this after so much planning. I’ve been in love with anything super hero and/or comic book related for a good chunk of my life. There’s just something about mixing superhuman fantastical characters, real world problems, explosions, and cheesy, jokes that gets me super excited.
My Marvel love started with Iron Man. I’m not sure why, but I prolonged watching the first movie by two years after it was released to DVD? I watched that movie exclusively for about two months to make up for my lost time, but let’s just pretend I’ve been a fan from day one.
Without any further ado, I present to you the first square of my Marvel’s Avengers C2C Graphgan!
I am obviously Team Iron Man for the latest Marvel movie, Civil War, hence the pixelated Iron Man helmet for the first square! Each week I will be releasing my own rendition of a different Avenger or villain of the Avengers for you to follow. So this is kind of a craft-along super hero style!
Each square will be crocheted in the C2C technique. It is super easy, so if you have never done it before, watch this helpful tutorial by Repeat Crafter Me. Her first C2C Graphgan actually inspired me to create my own craft-along!
Now I haven’t actually began crocheting this square yet myself, but the grid is extremely straight forward so there shouldn’t be any problems. I will hopefully have mine ready in a few days to share with everyone. If there are any issues, I will let you know if I made any revisions to the graph!
Supplies:
- Red worsted weight (4) yarn
- Yellow worsted weight (4) yarn
- White worsted weight (4) yarn
- Size H/8-5.00 mm crochet hook
- Yarn/tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Pen
Instructions:
Start by printing out this grid to help you follow along as you work each row:
Each square is colour-coded to match the final pattern, aside from the squares that use white yarn which were left in black. I would recommend starting at the very bottom right hand corner (an “R” square) and cross off each square as you complete it to ensure that you don’t do too many of one colour by accident!
This 20×20 grid is exactly symmetrical, so it is extremely important to follow the grid, otherwise your final square might look a little wonky!
Once you have made it all the way across the square work on weaving in your ends. It will be tedious, but so worth it in the end! Here’s a quick tutorial on weaving in ends.
I’ll give you a sneak peak at the line up of squares that you will be making if you follow along each week! They are all going to be related somehow to Marvel and the Avengers, whether they are villains or heroes.
-
Week 1: Iron Man
-
Week 2: Captain America
-
Week 3: Spider-Man
As the weeks follow and you complete each square, I would suggest leaving them separate rather than joining each square until you see which squares are going to be made and what colours are included. There will be 12 squares in total, so that is 12 weeks of easy crocheting that has been planned out for you!
This is going to be so fun, and by the end of the 12 weeks you will have a huge, cuddle, cozy blanket to show off!
Want to connect? Use the hashtag #marvelgraphghan to show me your progress! I’ll be checking Facebook and Instagram to see who is joining in!
Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments below. Thanks so much, and I can’t wait for us to get started!
Oh! I can’t wait to see this full project done in 12 weeks!
